SUMMARY:Health Disparities 2021: Moving Forward to Close the Gap in Minority and Ethnic Populations
DESCRIPTION:(Note: This event also occurs on April 17th in a different time slot  – 8:00am-12:15 pm)\nAbout the Course\nStroke\, heart attacks and other related health disparities are devastating to communities across our nation due to their broad impact. These disparities ultimately result in death\, disability\, or limited engagement that leads to negative consequences in terms of financial stability\, work-force numbers\, care-giving\, availability of expertise and guidance\, with disproportionately higher rates in the African American and other minority communities. Greater awareness of the major issues surrounding stroke\, heart attack and other health disparities in these populations is needed\, as awareness is the first step in bringing about positive change. This conference will provide the evidence underlying stroke and other health disparities and will include a discussion of solutions to overcome the obstacles through lectures\, case presentations\, expert panels\, and patient panels led by a nationally renowned faculty. \nLearning Objectives\n\nCritically assess the outcomes of local and national efforts to eliminate stroke and other health disparities in minorities and ethnic groups.\nList challenges clinicians and patients/communities face that contribute to health disparities.\nDescribe the recent insights regarding social determinants of health and its impact on patient care.\nCritically assess the impact of optimizing the Doctor-Patient relationship on eliminating stroke and other health disparities.\nList the major areas where there are knowledge gaps in our understanding about stroke and other health disparities and identify interventions to mitigate these disparities.\n\nTarget Audience\nNeurologists\, Neurosurgeons\, Primary Care Providers\, Internal Medicine\, Critical Care\, Emergency Medicine\, OB/GYNs\, Urologists\, Cardiologists\, Interventional Radiologists\, Public Health Specialists\, Social Work Professionals\, and Medical School Faculty. \n  \n \n \n  \n\n\n	Download Brochure

SUMMARY:Master of Public Health Events: Case Competition
DESCRIPTION:The MPH Program is happy to announce that they have formed a collaboration with the Ohio State University College of Public Health to host a CWRU/OSU Case Competition in conjunction with National Public Health Week 2021. Teams of students from CWRU and OSU will compete to develop the best and most innovative public health solutions to an identified problem. The purpose of this case is to provide recommendations to mitigate and prevent the spread of COVID-19 among staff and those incarcerated in Ohio’s jails. The partnering organization is the ACLU of Ohio. The Case Competition will be held on Wednesday\, April 7th. \nWhat is a Case Competition?\nA Case Competition brings teams of students together to develop solutions to an identified issue. The winning team is selected based on the merits (based on defined criteria and as judged by relevant experts) of their solutions. \nHow does this Case Competition work?\nTeams from CWRU and teams from OSU will compete in a preliminary case competition. The winner from each school will then face one another in the final round of the competition. Community partners representing relevant organizations and expertise will serve as judges. There is a cash prize for the winning team! \n  \nPlease direct questions to Andrew (arm161@case.edu) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n
