Dissemination Day 2024 Recap

Quick Find

Summary

CHEEER’s annual Community Research Dissemination Day held Tuesday, April 23rd at the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland was a great success! Over 60 attendees from across multiple institutions and community organizations came together to learn about the many project results and community perspectives from the center’s NIMHD grant “Involving Communities in Disseminating Health Disparity Interventions” that has spanned the last 15+ years.  The keynote address given by Dr. David Margolius truly resonated, bringing to light the challenges that we face in Cleveland but how partnering with community around research and public health is a way to build on our strengths and make real change. Pilot awardees spoke passionately about the journey of their pilot projects and the value their community partners brought to the entire research process.  Finally, the evening ended with our panel discussion featuring community members who have served as partners in various projects including Community Members as Journal Reviewers, a Couple’s Intervention for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, The Community Based Research Network and Think Tank. Facilitated by CBRN Co-Chair, Yvonne Oliver, the panelists spoke to how being involved in the research projects have changed their perceptions of research, what they enjoyed and would change, and provided advice for faculty/PIs on what to consider when planning future community-engaged research projects.  Dinner, dessert, comics, actions figures and trivia featuring CHEEER swag prizes also helped keep the evening fun.  Thank you to all who presented and attended, with a special thank you to the staff at the LGBT Community Center and CHEEER for all of the hard work in putting together a successful Dissemination Day!
