The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and our Northeast Ohio community partners join National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week, June 15-21, 2023. Led by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Oncology Center of Excellence, and Project Community, this community-based initiative aims to raise cancer awareness and encourage people to know their family cancer history. Join the national conversation with #BlackFamCan and engage with our partners using #BlackFamCanNEO.

The ABCs of Cancer in the Black Community: Advocacy, Bridging Barriers, Connecting and Conquering

Thursday, June 15, 2023, 6 – 7:30 p.m. via Zoom

Learn how to access, bridge barriers, and speak on your own behalf (advocate). You are encouraged to ask questions. Join Randy Vince, MD, Director of Minority Men’s Health at the Cutler Center for Men, University Hospitals, and panelists Petrina Patterson, Cancer Outreach Coordinator, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and Waverly Willis, President, The Urban Barber Association and community advocate, for a conversation about Cancer Screenings.

You will learn how to conquer the fear and challenges that happen when you hear the words “it’s cancer” by joining Tiffany Onger, MD, Breast Medical Oncologist, Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center, panelist Sydney Beeman, MA, NCC, LPC, The Gathering Place, and local cancer survivors for a conversation on Navigating a Cancer Journey. Also, get tips on how to speak up on your own behalf (advocate) and connect with resources. You are encouraged to ask questions.

Mammogram Monday

Is it time for you to get a mammogram? Routine health screenings are an essential part of your health. If you’re 40 or older (or 35-39 with a family history of breast cancer) and haven’t gotten a mammogram in the last 366 days, come get screened for breast cancer in Cleveland Clinic’s mobile mammovan.

Cancer screenings are usually covered under most insurance plans. Cleveland Clinic offers financial aid for uninsured or underinsured.

Prostate Screening

Is it time for you to get screened for prostate cancer? Routine health screenings are an essential part of your health. If you’re a male (those with a prostate) who is 40 or older, come get your blood drawn to check your Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA).

Cancer screenings are usually covered under most insurance plans. University Hospitals offers financial aid for uninsured or underinsured.
