J. Daryl Thornton, MD, MPH, FACP, ATSF is the Director of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine and the Director of the Center for Health Equity, Engagement, Education and Research at MetroHealth. He also serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Since joining MetroHealth in 2005, Dr. Thornton has overseen the Medical Intensive Care Unit and now co‑directs a fellowship in population‑health research. Recognized as an authority on health disparities, he has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and secured funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. A dedicated educator, Dr. Thornton has received multiple teaching honors from both MetroHealth and CWRU. He is an active member of the American Thoracic Society, a global community of over 30,000 clinicians and researchers focused on advancing care for patients with critical illness, respiratory diseases and sleep disorders.
